APC Internship Focuses on Using AI Integration to Automate Processes
Challenge
Lear Corporation, a global leader in automotive seating and E-Systems, maintains operations in Alabama that support every major automaker. The Cottondale Engineering Change Department manages complex parts and engineering updates, requiring accurate coordination and timely communication to avoid production delays.
Solution
University of Alabama student Anabelle Zuluaga, studying Operations Management, joined Lear as a summer intern in 2024. She worked on key projects that streamlined operations and integrated AI technology:
• AI Automation: Trained on Palantir Foundry software and led implementation of file automation, reducing manual updates and improving prediction of obsolete parts.
• Bill of Materials (BOM) Alerts: Researched part numbers and communicated engineering updates to the appropriate teams.
• Engineering Change and Lear Parts Audits: Conducted audits on missing parts and codes, collaborating with teams to resolve issues efficiently.
"Anabelle has been a vital member of the team, leading AI integration for process automation and improving model year changeovers. Her performance has been key in driving improvements in Lear processes. She is a great employee with a bright future ahead of her."
