APC Helps Precision Coil and Rotor Transition to ISO 9001:2015
The Challenge
Precision Coil and Rotor manufactures and rebuilds components for rotating electrical machines. The company first registered to ISO 9001:2000 in 2006. Since then, its business has expanded significantly.
In 2015, the University of Alabama ATN Center supported Precision Coil and Rotor in transitioning to ISO 9001:2015. In 2018, the company acquired a new customer that required the addition of new processes. To ensure readiness for the March 2019 ISO 9001:2015 surveillance audit, Precision Coil and Rotor once again turned to the University of Alabama ATN Center for assistance.
Solutions Implemented
In January 2019, the UA-ATN provided technical assistance and guidance to strengthen Precision Coil and Rotor’s quality management system:
**Policy and Procedure Updates**
Revised and updated current policies and procedures in alignment with ISO 9001:2015 guidelines.
**Internal Audit**
Conducted an internal audit in accordance with ISO 19011 (Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems).
The audit was completed by UA-ATN professional staff and a university student intern, providing both industry expertise and student experiential learning.
**Corrective Actions and Improvements**
Internal audit findings identified corrective actions and opportunities for improvement.
The UA-ATN team supported implementation and participated in the management review process.
**Surveillance Audit Preparation**
Supported the company in advance of the March 2019 SAI Global surveillance audit, resulting in an unconditional recommendation for registration.
Today, UA-ATN continues to serve as Precision Coil and Rotor’s quality system advisor, with student interns contributing to continuous process improvements.
